Optimally, you should own a minimum of three guns: a rifle, a handgun, and a shotgun.
The rifle should be at least .223 caliber, and preferably an autoloader. The handgun should be at least 9mm (or .38 caliber, if a revolver). It should be small enough for comfortable concealed carry. The shotgun should be 12ga, and should have a capacity of at least 6 shells. You should practice with your guns to ensure that you can use them competently. You should have a sufficient quantity of ammunition on hand to be able to use these guns effectively in a conflict.
